How to Replace the Heating Rods

[ Manual E2 – How to Replace the Heating Rods – V1.0 ]


Required tool:

2 mm hex wrench



1.Power off the machine.


2.Release the extruder connection cable retaining buckle. 


3.Use a 2 mm hex wrench to remove the two screws retaining the extruder connection board cover to the extruder.


4.Use a 2 mm hex wrench, remove the two screws retaining the extruder connection board to the extruder.


5.Gently pull out the extruder connection board in the direction of the arrow shown below. Be mindful of the small protrusion holding it in place.


6.Remove the two cables from the slots marked in red as shown in the picture below.


7.Use a 2 mm hex wrench to remove the hotend retaining screw. At this step, the entire hotend assembly can be removed along with the heating rod and thermocoupler.


8.Remove the hotend.


9.Remove the retaining screw on the hotend with a 2 mm hex wrench.


10.Once the retaining screw is loosened, the heating rod should be able to slide out.

Note: If the heating rod is not able to slide out freely, you can use a small flat-head screwdriver to gently flex the heating block.

At that point, there should be enough clearance for the heating rod to slide out smoothly.


-Reassembly-


11.Prepare the new heating rod.


12.Slide the new heating rod into the heating block.

Note: Ensure that the tip of the heating element is flush with the block, as shown in the picture below.


13.Reinstall the screw retaining the heating rod.

Note: Reinstall the screw firmly, but not so tightly that the heating rod is compressed.


14.Insert the hotend back into the extruder facing the back of the printer.


15.Once the hotend is inserted fully into the extruder, use a 2 mm hex wrench to tighten the screw retaining the hotend.


16.Plug the small protrusion of the board into the hole on the extruder. Once it’s installed properly, tuck the cables into the cable management slot.


17.Reconnect the heating rod cable to the terminal slot marked HE_0 or HE_1. Reconnect the temperature sensor cable into the terminal slot marked TS0 or TS1.


18.Tighten the two retaining screws by the 2 mm hex wrench.


19.Reinstall the connection board cover with the buckle facing the extruder connection cable socket.


After reinstallation, the machine will need to undergo calibration.

On RaiseTouch, select “Setting > Machine > Maintenance > Offset Calibration”, and follow the steps on the screen.
