How to Install the Hotend

[ Manual Pro2 Series - How to Install the Hotend - V1.0 ]

1. Lower the build plate.

1)     In the “Utilities tab”, lower the Z-Axis platform by selecting the down arrow.

2)     Lower the plate until you have enough space to comfortably maneuver tools within the area.

Note: The recommended value of Z-axis is 150-250mm.

2. Unload the filament.

1)     In the “Utilities” tab, verify that the temperature is the set as the recommended temperature for your filament. (For example, 215℃ for Raise3D PLA)

2)     Adjust the temperature if required. Press the “Unload” button to unload the filament.

3)     The printer will begin to heat up to the designated temperature. Once the temperature is reached the target temperature, select the “Unload” to unload the filament.

3. Cool down the nozzle.

1)     In the “Home” tab, select the left nozzle temperature. In the new window, set the temperature to “0℃”, and select “OK”. Repeat this step for the right nozzle.

2)     Allow the nozzle to cool down completely before continuing the next steps.

3)     When the extruders reach an ambient temperature, power off the printer.

4. Remove the cooling fan.

1)     Remove the two retaining screws of the cooling fan with a 2.5mm hex wrench.

5. Remove the hotend.

1)     Remove the 4 retaining screws inside the heating block. This step will release the hotend from the wiring, which will be removed in the next step.

1)     Remove the retaining screw to release the hotend from the machine.

2)     Remove the heating rod and thermocouple wires from the heating block to fully remove the hotend.

6. Inspect and replace the hotend.

1)     To completely replace the hotend, verify that the new hotend is properly adjusted.

2)     The bottom of the radiator should be aligned with the bottom of the large cylinder.

3) If the position of the radiator is not correct, please refer to Manual Pro2 Series- How to Replace the Nozzle for more instructions.

7. Wiring.

1)     Insert the heating rod (red wire) into the bottom hole of the heating block. Insert it so that it reaches the end of the heating block and fix it in place with two retaining screws.

2)     Insert the silver thermocouple into the upper hole on the heating block.

3)     Reinstall it with two retaining screws.

8. Install the hot end.

1)     Insert the hotend and push it all the way up.

2)     Reinstall the retaining screw.

Note: If you want to replace multiple hotends, repeat steps 4-8 for the second hotend before continuing to align the nozzles.

9. Adjust the other hotend.

1)     Remove the retaining screw marked in red with 2.5mm hex wrench.

1)     Insert the hotend and push it all the way up.

2)     Reinstall the retaining screw.

10. Positioning the bed. The following steps will talk about how to calibrate the nozzles.

1)     Power on your printer.

Note: Cooling fan will not be installed at this stage. Be careful when rotating parts.

2)     In the “Home” tab, select the left nozzle, and set the temperature to “180℃”. This will ensure that the left nozzle is enabled and in the proper position.

3)     In the “Utilities” tab, select the Z-axis “Home” button to move the bed into the origin position.

11. Extruder Positioning.

1)     Disable the motor by clicking the “Disable Motor” button. You can freely reposition the extruder.

2)     Move the extruder to the center position.

Note: When moving the extruder, please avoid contact with hot parts and be careful of burns.

12. Calibrate the left nozzle.

1)     Select the left nozzle icon, and select the down arrow to ensure the left nozzle is enabled.

2)     Place the feeler gauge (included in printer accessory box) under the left nozzle.

3)     Home the Z-axis, then verify the new height with the feeler gauge.

4)     To adjust the nozzle height, rotate the large thumbscrew as depicted in the following figure.

Note:

1. Don’t adjust the small side-mounted screw.

2. Homing is required each time the knob is adjusted.

3. Repeat until the desired result is achieved.

4. Adjustments should be made gradually. You will see the change in altitude after homing the bed.

13. Calibrate the right nozzle.

Note: The left nozzle and the bed should be in proper position before continuing the following steps.

1)     In the “Home” tab, heat the right nozzle to 180℃.

2)     Enable the right nozzle by selecting the icon, then selecting the down arrow.

3)     Once the nozzle is enabled, set the temperatures to “0℃”, and allow them to cool down completely before continuing.

4)     Once the hotend has cooled completely, inset the feeler gauge under the right nozzle and check for proper height.

5)     If the nozzle needs further adjustments, loosen the retaining screw, and manually move the hotend until it is able to touch the feeler gauge.

Note: Do not adjust the height of the build plate. Adjusting the base will affect the left nozzle, which will be re-calibrated from step 9.

6)     Reinstall the screw into this position.

7)     When the nozzle height is properly calibrated, power your printer off and re-install the cooling fans.
